James ("Jim") Lawrence Neal, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on November 9, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell W. Neal and Linea C. Neal (Olson), and his three brothers Sonny, Jack, and Bill. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth L. Neal (Shepherd), children James Neal, and Christine Broschak (Tom Broschak), Tessa Davis Potts, grandson Jonathon T. Baxter (Alyx Baxter), Misty Hoy, and several great grandchildren.

Attended Linden McKinley High School in Columbus, OH. He began his career in the bowling industry working as a pin setter at Clintonville lanes, moved on to working as a mechanic at Olentangy Village Lanes. After receiving specialized training through AMF (American Machine and Foundry), be was promoted to the night manager at Olentangy lanes until 1980 when he went to work for Southern Bowling & Billiards resurfacing bowling lanes and installing pool tables. Between jobs he drove truck over the road with his brother-in-law, Donald Shepherd.

In 1985 he launched his own business, Jim Neal Bowling Services, serving bowling centers across Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Indiana. He continued his work with passion and dedication until his retirement in 2018 at the age of 75.

Jim lived life to the fullest and had many interests and hobbies. In his younger years, he ran a trapline and sold the pelts for extra income. He loved fishing trips to Canada with friends, flying remote-control airplanes. He belonged to the Westerville Model Aeronautics Association and participated in numerous fly contests, won several awards, and also judged competitions. He loved kayaking at the New River Gorge in West Virginia, one of his favorite destinations. He enjoyed rock climbing there at the "endless wall," camping at Frank's Bait shop, and flying in an airplane through the Gorge with "Five-Dollar Frank." Jim also backpacked and hiked the Smokey Mountains and parts of the Appalachian Trail a few times with Ruth, sometimes friends, and brother-in-law Joseph Shepherd. He even tried his hand at powered paragliding at the age of 65!

Jim and Ruth shared a love of travel, spending some winters in Florida and exploring scenic destinations across the U.S. Photography became another great passion after retirement, especially capturing eagles and owls around Ohio. He shared hundreds of his stunning images on social media photograph groups, earning admiration for his award-worthy work.

Jim will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love for family, and his ability to find joy in every chapter of life.
