James Dickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harley Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. on Dec. 22, 2025.
James Melvin Dickson, 68, of Abbeville, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025 at his home.

Born in Cherry Hill, NC on April 3, 1957, he was a son of Rebecca Carolyn Martin Tollison and the late James Alton Tollison.

He spent his career as a truck driver at Carolina Pride. Outside of work, he was known for his love of the great outdoors-whether it was gold mining or fishing, he thrived in nature. A simple man at heart, James cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He adored his mother and had a special place in his heart for her.

Growing up, James found joy in community and church baseball, and his playful spirit made him the jokester of the family. He had a knack for aggravating the kids, believing that if he wasn't picking on you, he didn't truly love you. He often talked about his dream of having a tiny house in the mountains-a perfect retreat where he could engage himself in the beauty of nature he adored.

In addition to his mother, Rebecca he is survived his children, Jason Dickson (Jeannie) and Natasha McCord (Tim); brothers, John Tollison and Mike Dickson (Kimberly); and grandchildren, Anastacia, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Thomas, Charles, Jason, and Mason.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Alton Tollison; and sister, Bonita Guido.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Howle officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Brent Werts, Ronnie Knapp, Thomas Pulley, Charles Pulley, Brad Scruggs and Tim McCord.

The family will receive friends before the service from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to James' funeral expenses at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory c/o James Dickson, PO Box 777, Greenwood, SC 29648.
