James "Jimmy" Curtis Dobert, 56 of Taborton, NY, passed away on December 16, 2025.
Born to Daryl and Elton Dobert, he was their third child with one brother and two sisters.
A childhood in Taborton provided a farm life with woods and lakes to play in. He was a true outdoorsman, being a gifted hunter with both bow and rifle. He loved fishing, hiking, skiing and spending time with friends. Jimmy was a great story teller. He was a gifted wood carver and made intricate fans and cooking utensils.
Jimmy started working from a young age at Hankle Lumber mill, Jiminy Peak as an Alpine Slide operator, ski lift operator, and ski instructor. Next came Leckonby Autoworks and carpentry with Kim Lincoln, John Walsh, Lowell Radley, for Neil Biittig and many more.
After a serious concussion and traumatic brain injury at home 10 years ago, he was never the same.
Jimmy was predeceased by his dad Elton in 2024 and his brother-in-law Lowell in 2018. He is survived by his mom Daryl, brother Jody (Amy Jo), sisters Kim and Amy (Bill), nieces and nephews Ila, Aiden, Gabby, Ethan, Joe, Emma and his "like a brother" Loren.
There will be a memory sharing get together on January 10, 2026 in Averill Park at the Lakeview Restaurant (upstairs) from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All who knew Jimmy are welcome.
A graveside ceremony will take place in the Butler Homestead Burying Ground in the Summer.
Donations in memory of Jimmy would be welcome to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, as he loved animals. Make checks payable to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, Attn: Donations, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204

My Heart goes out to all those that loved Jimmy! May your memories bring you peace and comfort. I will always remember the way he spoke the language of the woods, mimicking the sounds of nature as we hiked and when we fished how the silence between us felt full while we cast our lines and waited. I'll think of the scent of blueberry pancakes drifting through an Indian summer morning, warm and sweet as the sun. I think back to the time we spent by a flickering fire, words coming easily, then softly fading as our eyes lifted to a sky scattered with stars. I'll always hold these moments close to my heart, and when I think of Jimmy I'll think of his smile and the enduring sense of protection and peace his presence always provided me. May he rest in peace in the grace of an Indian summer glow.
