James Augustus Drewry, 92, of Seaford, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15,2025.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy Jones Drewry.
Born on October 25,1932 in Wakefield, Va., he was the son of the late Howard Drewry, Sr. and the late Edith Warren Drewry. James proudly served in the U. S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He retired from Amoco Oil Refinery, was a member of Seaford Baptist Church and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
In his retirement he enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska, Myrtle Beach and numerous bus tours with close friends.
James was always the backbone of support for his family, he could always be found at the local ball fields supporting his grandchildren's sports; he never knew a stranger, everyone
in the community knew and loved him, and anywhere he went he proudly wore his veteran's hat that would strike up great conversations.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Howard Drewry, Jr. (Joan). In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Franklin Drewry (Kim) of Windsor, Eugene
Drewry (Heather) of Seaford, Wayne Drewry (Kim) of Seaford, and Wayne Strickland; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Josh) Arneault, Danny (Amy) Drewry, Dean (Ashley) Drewry, Thomas (Elizabeth) Drewry, Lauren Irby, Paige (Cody) Williams, Courtney Drewry, Jami
(Dylan) Kello; eight great grandchildren, Brandon, Brooklyn, Camryn, Trent, Brody, Easton, Trey, Waylon, and 2 on the way; siblings, Billy Drewry (Rosalie) of Wakefield, Emmett
Drewry (Lizzie) of Waverly, Thomas Drewry (Joanne) of Northern Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Seaford Baptist Church with Pastor Shaun Brown officiating, reception to follow. Additionally, a visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 12:30-2:00 pm at
R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home in Wakefield, Va. with interment and military honors to follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. at 3:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and Hospice at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for their compassion and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Horton Wreath Society.
