James “Dunner” Patrick Dunn
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James P. Dunn on December 14th, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born in Burlington Vermont November 19th, 1948, James grew up in Rutland Vermont, the first son of 8 to the late James Dunn and Patricia Dunn. He attended Rutland High School where he was an All-state Tight End for the Raiders.
James served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972 as an E4 Quartermaster Third Class, during the Vietnam War. He fondly described his time as a Navigator in the Navy and was thankful for the opportunity it provided him to see the world. After the Navy he continued his career at sea by becoming a merchant marine.
James found his greatest joy outdoors. He had a deep love for nature and was always eager to spend time hunting, hiking, fishing, skiing, camping, or sailing. Whether in the mountains or on open water, he cherished the meaningful memories made outdoors with friends, and most of all with his two sons.
Above all else, James was a devoted father. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas Dunn, Patrick Dunn, and recent granddaughter Millie Dunn, whom he loved more than anything in the world. His pride in them was evident to everyone who knew him.
In keeping with James’s wishes, no service will be held. He will always be remembered for his spontaneous adventures, strong convictions, and the unwavering love he had for his family.
