James Eisman Obituary

Visit the Wellman Funeral Home, Inc. - Circleville website to view the full obituary.

James Joseph Eisman, 78, of Circleville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 27th surrounded by loved ones at home.

Jim was born on May 8, 1947, in Litchfield, Illinois, to Pearl and Joseph Eisman. He was raised in Mt. Clare, Illinois, and carried those small-town roots with him throughout his life. He earned a B.S. in Business from Eastern Illinois University in 1969, a B.A. in Health and Physical Science Education from the University of Missouri in 1973, and a M.S. in Management from Webster University in 1985-education that reflected both his curiosity and his dedication to lifelong learning.

An Air Force veteran, Jim later moved to Circleville, Ohio, to work at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe as Assistant Chief of Therapeutic Recreation. At 50 years young, he discovered what he proudly called his dream job as an NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Circleville YMCA, where he inspired countless people through encouragement, discipline, and genuine care.

Jim enjoyed exploring all the beauty and wonders that the outdoors had to offer, always with a camera close by to capture a candid moment. He was known for his stories, his singing, and his contagious laughter and for his well-documented inability to walk away from a good conversation. Wherever Jim went, connection followed.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Colette; his daughter, Jessica (Travis) Thompson; his son, Michael (Katie); his four grandchildren, Treyton, Pia, Parker, and Cooper; his brother, Al (Lina); and his nephew, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Joseph, and his beloved Aunt Enis.

Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 7th at St. Joseph’s Church 134 W. Mound St. Circleville, Ohio 43113. Visitation 9:00-11:00, Funeral Mass 11:00

(Details regarding the celebration of life will follow.)

In lieu of flowers, consider going for a walk in the park and stopping to smell the roses.

Jim lived a life of purpose. He believed in working hard and doing the right thing, at all times, regardless of notoriety or reward. He loved this country and was determined to explore as much of it as possible. He cherished earnest conversation, meeting new people, and above all, laughing, singing, and dancing through life with his wife.

Did Jim live a good life? Without question, the answer is yes.

Missed and deeply loved, our Compass North may be gone, but his spirit lives on with us.
