It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of James Maxwell "Jim" Eskins, 77 of Alderson, WV, who left this world for greener fairways on Monday, April 7, 2025 after a short stay at the Genesis Care Center in White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Jim was born on January 23, 1948 at Dark Hollow in Alderson, Monroe County, WV to the late James Harold and Doreen Comella Duff Eskins of Alderson, WV.
After graduating Alderson High School in 1965, Jim went on to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College where he studied theology and was a member of Sigma Theta Epsilon fraternity. In 1973 he graduated from Concord College with a degree in biology.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1969, attaining the rank of SP5. He was stationed at Tây Ninh Combat Base as part of the 588th Engineer Battalion. His military decorations include the American Spirit Honor Medal, three Soldier of the Month recognitions, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Marksman (M-16), and Sharpshooter (M-14). In 1970, he was honorably discharged from service.
Jim dabbled in several professions from EMT to cattle farming before finally retiring after 25+ years as Owner and Broker-in-Charge of Eskins Real Estate & Auctioneering.
Jim was a life-long member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, a 31-year member of the Hinton Elks Lodge #821, past member of the Lewisburg Elks Lodge #1758, and also served as a Little League Umpire in the 1980s.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, but above all, his true passion was golf. Whether playing or teaching you would often find him at Willow Wood Country Club.
While the family has lost a loved one, many have lost a friend. Those closest will remember him best for his laughter, a practical joker with off-color humor, and his love for telling stories.
Jim is survived by his separated wife, Donna V. Eskins of Hinton, WV; a former wife and mother of his children, Ann H. Eskins of Alderson, WV; a son, Clint Eskins (Gina) of Frankford, WV; a daughter, Stacy Eskins of Alderson, WV; grandchildren, Autumn Eskins and Gavin Eskins of Frankford, WV; a brother, Harold M. "Mick" Eskins (Theresa), and a niece, Aimee Gray (Chris) all of Central City, KY; and his beloved dogs, Lexie & Gus.
The family would like to express appreciation to all of Jim's caregivers, especially Amanda Carter, ever present since his stroke in 2023. Many thanks also to his neighbor, Leonard Conner, for his devoted friendship and caring assistance.
Per Jim's wishes, his body was donated to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. No services will be held at this time. The family would be grateful if you'd share your favorite memories and stories about Jim through online condolences at wallaceandwallacefh.com - To all his golfing buddies, tee up a round of golf in his honor and remember him fondly.
