James "Jim" Evans, age 81, passed away on September 27, 2024.
Jim was born in Clovis, NM to Wilson Evans, Sr and Myrtice Evans on May 14, 1943. He grew up in Onida, SD. They moved back to a small border town called Friona, TX. Jim was the second of four children; his older brother Wilson, Jr (deceased), younger brother Brian and younger sister Crista. He graduated from Friona High School in 1961 and West Texas State University in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration minoring in History and English. He would have loved to be a history teacher but he was drafted into the Army at Fort Knox, KY where he met the love of his life, Ruth Schultz of Louisville, KY. They dated for a year and half. After graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant Officer, Jim married Ruth on July 22, 1967 in Louisville. They were blessed to have been married 57 wonderful years until his death.
Jim grew up in the Church of Christ and knew his bible well. If ever in doubt, he would go to God's word to be sure. He loved the Lord putting God and family first in everything he did. For this reason, he asked for his bible to be with him in the hospital these last remaining months. He kept Ruth grounded in the word with their daily devotions together. He often said when Christ tells you what to do, you start living like Christ wants you to for the rest of your life.
They had three wonderful sons: Mark, Garrett and Ryan (deceased). Mark blessed them with four cherished and adored grandchildren: Kristen Jimenez, Brianna Evans, Mark Thomas Evans and Victoria Evans. Those grandchildren blessed them with fifteen great grandchildren; Isaiah, Landen, Bella, Vonni, Cami, Mateo, Noah, Aubree, Evelynn, Avrie, Brently, Luke, Tucker, Alex, and Rhiannon. Jim loved and treasured each of them so very much, always asking when they would visit again. They would all get in line to come over to their home for a fun sleepover. Jim was an avid chess player. His older grandchildren always loved challenging him in a game.
Over his career, he was a supervisor for employees at Allstate Insurance and a real estate agent for Graves Real Estate. He spent his retirement years as an appraiser.
He will be greatly missed. He told us how much he loved us and that he was ready to go. He is truly going home to Heaven.
