James W. Evans, 57, of New Palestine, Indiana, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on January 8, 2026. James was born on March 17, 1968, to Wilbert Evans and Brenda Herrington-Evans.

James graduated from Warren Central High school and completed his associates degree at Vincennes University.

James was, above all else, a devoted husband and father who loved his family fiercely and lived every day for them. He showed his love through action—by working hard, providing, teaching, and always being present. He was rarely still for long, always moving toward the next goal, the next project, or the next way to make life better for those around him.

James had a natural way of leading others. As a coach, mentor, and business owner, he poured himself into people just as much as his work, setting high expectations because he believed in what others were capable of becoming. He gave his all in everything he did, and his unbreakable spirit carried him through every challenge he faced. A true fighter, James never feared hard work or difficult roads—he met them head-on.

He loved sports, cars, vacations, and golfing with his sons, moments that reflected his greatest joy: time with family. His booming, unmistakable voice filled any room, often followed by laughter, instruction, or encouragement. With his hands always busy, James was forever teaching how to build, fix, or figure something out—and if he didn’t know how, he “knew a guy.” James leaves behind a legacy of strength, guidance, and deep, unwavering love.

James is preceded in death by his parents Wilbert Evans, Brenda Herrington-Evans; and sister Belinda Sweeney.

James is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lauri; sons James Austin and Garrett James; Aunt Sharron and Uncle Ed Clearwater, brothers Jeremy Sweeney, Jason Mabis; sister Becky Beasley; nieces, nephews and a big extended family; and his best friends Dean and Tawnya Curran; and many close friends.

Visitation for James will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 2:00pm-6:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Memorial Park Funeral home, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. Services for James will take place the following day on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to make a donation to any New Palestine High School activity of your choice.
