James Evert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thurman Funeral Home - Richmond on Feb. 20, 2026.
James "Jim" Monroe Evert, 83, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Jim was born on February 14, 1943, in Richmond, the son of Monroe "Monty" John and Huetta Wilma (Taylor) Evert. He was united in marriage to Deborah "Debbie" Ann Dunwoodie of Richmond on December 25, 2007; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Ted (Sara) Cameron of Vineyard, UT, and Charles "Kevin" (Amy) Evert of Richmond; stepson, Daniel (Carrie) Dunwoodie of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Tana Taylor Akers.

Jim was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Richmond High School. Throughout his life, he wore many hats and truly embodied the spirit of a "jack of all trades." Jim worked for GM Motors, built houses, worked as a painter, had a painting company, sold cars, owned a car lot, sold sporting goods, and owned several other businesses. He took great pride in being a man who could fix, build, or figure out just about anything. His strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand were qualities many admired.

Outside of his work, Jim found his greatest enjoyment in the outdoors and behind the wheel. He loved hunting and fishing, always appreciating the quiet moments nature provided. A true car enthusiast at heart, Jim had a passion for speed. He enjoyed stock car racing and drag racing, and few things brought him more pride than his beautifully restored 1968 Camaro - a reflection of both his talent and his love for classic muscle cars. He was a member of Hard Time Rodders Car Club.

Jim will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember his hardworking spirit, adventurous heart, and the joy he found in the simple things he loved most.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Ray County. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Please remember to share your memories of Jim with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
