Herbert Peter Evert

Evert Herbert Peter Peacefully at home on December 6, 2025 while held closely by his wife, Jeanette Montgomery Evert. Throughout the day and evening of December 3rd and the morning of December 4th, 2025 family members and friends said their goodbyes either in person or via FaceTime. A native of Chicago, Herb graduated from Northwestern University in 1956, and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School followed by a Chartered Financial Analyst Degree. After college he served active duty in the Army as Military Intelligence Detachment Division in Chicago. His expertise in investment management led to a diversified international career, starting with Northern Trust Company in Chicago. In 1972 Herb moved to Banque Scandinave in Geneva, Switzerland where Northern Trust had a 25% equity interest. This was followed by senior executive positions in INA, Cigna Asset Management Co., Torchmark Corporation, Miller Anderson and Sherred and their 25% interest in Long Term Credit Bank (LTCB) Tokyo, Japan. Herb was known for his warm smile, sincerity and steady presence. With his twinkling blue eyes and a great sense of humor, he was a humble, gentle, gentleman with a large, kind, caring, and generous heart along with a deep devotion to his family. In conversation Herb was an engaging, thoughtful listener always respectful of different points of view. Herb's intelligence, high integrity and love of mentoring others was much appreciated. He loved tennis and remained active until the age of 87. Notwithstanding his special pride in his four grandsons, his competitive nature would never let the record show a loss on the court to any of them! A loyal friend who stayed in in touch, he cherished adventure and experiences shared with his family and friends. Herb and his wife were avid travelers and fans of the Arts – the latter interest leading him to generously support a wide range of philanthropic organizations and many professional associations. Herb was a devoted loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Montgomery Evert; his daughters Jennifer Rusk (Matthew) and Elizabeth Evert Orr (Andrew); his grandsons Harrison Rusk, Eliot Rusk, Maxwell Orr and Alexander Orr as well as many beloved extended family members and friends. Herb was predeceased by his first wife Charlene Evert. A Celebration of his rich and full life will take place on March 21, 2026 at 11:30 A.M. at Naples United Church of Christ, Naples, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Herb's honor to Artis-Naples, Naples, Florida or to Pathways Early Education Center of Immokalee, Florida. May his spirit have the softest of flights onward.
