James Ferens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Traub Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. - Central Square on Feb. 13, 2024.
James M. "Jim" Ferens, 75, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at his home in Constantia.
A Celebration of Life in Jim's honor will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of CNY or the Wounded Warrior Project.
James was born in Syracuse to the late Joseph and Norma Ferens on September 26, 1948. He graduated from high school, and married Martha Higgs in 1972. Jim enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1981, and was honorably discharged years later.
Besides the Army, Jim worked a variety of different jobs in his life.He worked for the Village of Pheonix, was a garbage truck operator, a Walmart employee, and even a limo driver at one point.
Jim was a man of few words, but he always meant what he said, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. His selfless nature and sarcastic humor, along with his devotion for Martha created a loving enviornment in the Ferens household. Even after her passing, he always kept his wife's memory alive; carrying photos of her in his wallet at all times.
Jim's warm and patient energy made animals especially fond of him. He was a dog person through and through, and had the opportunity to love a number of canines throught his life.
In his later years, Jim moved to his residence attached to his daughters home. He loved having his own space, but also loved that he only had to walk upstairs to see his favorite people. One of his greatest joys was being a grandpa.
Though he was mostly a homebody, Jim appreciated the serenity of nature, taking the time to sit by the water and fish, or waiting silently for a buck to walk by.
He was a true 'History Buff', fascinated with military history, and the Civil War. A fond memory of his children is their trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where they toured the battlefield and learned about the supernatural accounts surrounding the town.
He also liked to watch NASCAR, and was especially a fan of Dale Jerrett.
Left to cherish his memory is his children; Stephanie & David Corkran and Robert & Kelly Ferens, his brother; David Ferens, his grandchildren; Aidan, Adrina, Kaydence, Kinzlee, Bobby Jr., Lucian, Catalina, and Vaeda who is on the way, as well as his loyal dog; Bruno, and a nephew; Trever Ferens. Besides his parents, Jim is predeceased by his beloved wife; Martha, and his brother; Tony Ferens.
