James A. Findlay, age 88, died peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Eastview Rehabilitation Center.
Jim was born in Redgranite, Wisconsin, son of Al and Daisy Findlay, and he grew up in Wautoma, Wisconsin. Following graduation from Wautoma High School, he graduated from UW-Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in business education. He later went on to earn a master's degree from Colorado State University.
On June 16, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Lachelt at United Methodist Church in Wautoma. They went on to establish their family in Antigo, WI. Jim was a dedicated business educator and started his teaching career at Marathon High School. He went on to teach at Antigo High School and spent the majority of his career teaching business classes at North Central Technical College. He was often stopped in the community by former students who shared how much they enjoyed having him as a teacher.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, ice fishing, throwing horseshoes, playing cards, traveling and spending winters in Arizona. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering for all his favorite local and state sports teams. Jim was especially proud of having 4 holes-in-one, all coming after turning 60 years old.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years; Beverly Findlay of Antigo, son; Scott Findlay of Antigo, daughter; Cindy (Ron) Fuller of Two Rivers, one granddaughter; Julie (Matt) Stone of Manitowoc, brother; Gene (Marcia) Findlay of Monroe, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jim was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first great grandchild arriving in December.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Lowell and Patricia Lachelt.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, 504 Edison Street, Antigo, WI with Pastor Debbie Pimm officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. A burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Jim's name to the United Methodist Church Sunday School Program, 2034 Fifth Avenue, Antigo, WI.

Beverly, Scott and Cindy: I am so very sorry to read of Jim's passing. I was one of his students at NTC back in the early '70's. He was a wonderful teacher and advisor, and it was apparent he loved his family immensely. I was privileged to be his work study while at NTC and very much enjoyed working for him. I also helped your family with childcare for a weekend getaway that winter, and had a lot of fun! Great memories and always fun to look back at those days. I'm asking the Lord to comfort you in your grief as it is never easy to say goodbye to our most loved ones. May He fill you with His peace and comfort and encourage your hearts with the many wonderful memories you share as a family. Hugs and love to all of you!!
