James Robert Fisher, affectionately known as "Jimmy" or "Fish" to family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, at Haywood Medical Center in Waynesville, North Carolina, at the age of 70. Born in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, on September 6, 1954, Jimmy spent most of his life in Wilkes County, Georgia, where he created a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Jimmy's journey through life was one of hard work and dedication. Educated at Wilkes County Schools, he made his mark as a truck driver and farrier, known for his strength, work ethic, and unwavering dedication. Beyond his professional life, he was an amateur boxer with a love for boxing matched only by his passion for horses, fishing, going to the lake, and cooking. He had a gift for making people laugh and was always ready with a joke or a story. Jimmy's greatest love, however, was undoubtedly for his children, family, and friends. His advice to "live life to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it" is a legacy he leaves behind.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted children: daughter Christina Diane "Crissy" Fisher of Thomson, GA; sons Christopher David Fisher (Khristine) of Branson, MO, and Michael Alan Fisher (Cheryl) of Pendergrass, GA. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren TJ Hadden (Savannah), Zoe Hadden, Daniella Fisher, Dominique Welborn, Ishemia Mills, Gregory Glenn, Trinity Glenn, Haley Fisher, Dale Fisher, Jaden Garmon (Dylan), and his treasured great-grandchildren Kezia Hadden, Luna Hadden, Courtney Gartrell, Greyson Mills, Gabriella Mills, Dream Wilkinson, Maliah Mitchell, Aubrey Fisher, and a baby Garmon on the way. His nephew, Kevin Lamar; niece, Casie Lamar Turner; and dear friend Melissa Stone will also carry his memory forward.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Robert Travis "Bob" Fisher and Lenor Mae Turner, his brother Clinton Eugene "Clint" Fisher, his sister Diane Fisher Lamar, daughter Jennifer Leigh Fisher, and great-granddaughter Ellanora Grace Mitchell.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jimmy's life will be held on June 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel, with Randy Fisher officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home.
Jimmy's impact on those who knew him is a testament to a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
