William Joseph “Bill” Burdette of Washington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on November 26, 1966, in Washington, Bill spent his entire life in the community he loved.

A lifelong farmer, Bill dedicated his career to Burdette Mill & Gin, a family business he joined right after graduating from Wilkes Academy. His hard work and commitment to agriculture reflected his love for both the land and the people around him.

Bill was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and attended the Church of the Mediator. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Mary Elizabeth Allison Burdette, who faithfully stood by his side through life’s many seasons. Bill is also survived by his brother, Walter Edward Burdette III, and his wife Teresa of Washington; his sister, Kaye Bufford, and her husband Bill of Lincolnton; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Allison and Sarah Ziegler, and Kevin and Anne Dancoff. He leaves behind cherished nephews and nieces, W.E. Burdette IV, Russell Burdette, Mary Iris Allison, Carole Bufford, and Joan Bufford, as well as great-nieces and nephews, Walt Burdette, Ruby Kate Burdette, Jack Burdette, and Rosie Jane Burdette.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Edward Burdette Jr. and Eva Ann Griffin Burdette, and his sister, Judy Burdette. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

A graveside service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Resthaven Cemetery, with Rev. Paul Wright and Rev. Preston Sanders officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Donations may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, c/o Teresa Burdette, 1568 Greensboro Road, Washington, Georgia 30673; Washington Wilkes Animal Shelter, 358 Brown Road, Washington, Georgia 30673; The Episcopal Church of the Mediator; or to a charity of one’s choice, in memory of Bill.
