James J. "Sudsy" Fiume, 100, of Pittston, passed away peacefully at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, on Aug. 21, 2025, with his son by his side.
He was born in Pittston on March 27, 1925, to the late Michael and Helen Chabak Fiume and was a graduate of Pittston High School.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie; his brothers, Leonard and Anthony; and nephews, Barry, Michael and James R. Fiume.
James is survived by his son, James Fiume, and wife, Monice, of Ashburn, Va.; grandchildren, Jimmy, of Washington D.C., and Matthew (Libby), of Leesburg, Va.; and four nephews.
James served in World War II as a combat engineer and was awarded the Soldier's Medal. He then continued his service in the United States Army Reserve 300th Field Hospital for 35 years. He was a life member and Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a faithful member of St. Rocco's Parish. James worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) as a state electrical inspector for over 25 years.
James' family would like thank the nurses and staff at Gino J. Merli Veterans Center for their dedicated care during his time at the facility.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home, 700 S. Township Blvd, Pittston.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at the funeral home.
The funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30. Those who plan on attending are asked to be at the funeral home by 8:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Marello Parish (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church), 237 William St., Pittston. Interment will follow at St. Rocco's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gino J. Merli Residents' Welfare Fund.

Sudsy would make me laugh when we would meet for our monthly 300th dinner meeting.
He would put his 3" thick wallet on the table.
I didn´t know how he fit it in his pants pocket!

Sorry to hear this news- sudsy was close with my father. We had some great times together hunting at the cabin in wyalusing. He was a good man.
