James Michael Floyd

Mike Floyd, May 16, 1950 – November 26, 2025, was the son of James Bradley Floyd and Dorothy Floyd Miller. He was born and raised in Smyrna, GA, and like his father, he had an unmistakable spark about him and loved to tell corny jokes. He was a proud Southerner through and through. He was a graduate of Wills High School where he made life-long friends.
Mike was a mentor, a protector, a man of wisdom and grit - someone who could look at a pool table and see geometry the rest of us missed. He also loved to fish for trout - his fish of choice.
Mike spent his working life mastering the art and craft of rigging and gripping with IATSE Local 479, where strength, precision, and trust is everything. Everyone who worked with Mike looked up to him as a brother or father figure. In the world of lights, cables, sets, and long days, he became known not just for what he could do with his hands - but for who he was: loyal, sharp, steady, and fiercely dependable. His work ethic was legendary, his eye for angles and geometry unmatched, and his ability to make the impossible look effortless became his quiet signature.
Mike leaves behind his sister, Doe Floyd Steely of Fort Mill, SC, and two nieces, Allison Doe Steely of Nashville, TN, and Anna Steely Culver of Fort Mill, SC. He also leaves behind many countless hearts forever changed by his love, with the closest among them being Janice Goldman, Michael Shane Thigpen, and James Zachary Goldman. And, of course, Bella, his beloved German Shepard.
There will be a Memorial Service in Mike's honor on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at The American Legion, Post 160, in Smyrna, GA from 2-5 pm, where he was a life-long member. Light appetizers will be served and there will be a cash bar.
