James L. Foster

James Lincoln Foster, 73, of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts died on February 20, 2024, after a period of declining health.
Jim was born in Weymouth, MA in 1950. From the start he had two great loves: sports and family. In his teenage years he often dedicated his touchdowns and home runs to his sisters Carolyn, Paule, and Deb by pointing at them in the stands. Sometimes his touchdowns were called back due to his own offsides. Anything to get an edge.
He moved to Cape Cod in 1977 to take a Professorship at Cape Cod Community College, where he taught for more than 30 years. He was a dynamic teacher and avid outdoorsman, rappelling students down towers, traipsing them through marshes, and once getting them trapped on Morris Island when the tide came in.
A loving, supportive, and devoted father, he taught his children: Justin, Holly, and Travis about the importance of hard work, loyalty, tradition, and good old-fashioned fun. He told fireside stories on camping trips, set leprechaun traps on St. Paddy's Day, and set up complex holiday traditions complete with costumes and stories. His love of sports and family carried through his adult years coaching and never missing a chance to cheer on his kids.
His reputation as a master storyteller grew as his audience expanded to include Sean and Corinne and grandchildren: JJ, Kit, Gus, Isla, and Ivy. During group vacations to Ocean Park, Maine and Disney World he passed on traditions to the next generation.
Through it all, Jim's partner was his wife of 51 years. He met Thelma on a blind date in 1967. They loved to travel together, so much so that they once embarked on a cross-country camping trip with a brand-new baby that ended in Thelma's hospitalization for dehydration in Monument Valley, Utah. She still claims that she did not mean to break his nose when he tried to throw her in the pond.
