James "Jim" Gandee, 79, of Madison, Ohio, passed away in his home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. He was born on October 2, 1945 to Basil and Minnie Gandee in Ripley, West Virginia.
Jim worked as a deputy sheriff in Jackson County, West Virginia and then as a police officer in Madison, Ohio before taking a position at Parker Hannifin Corporation where he was employed as a supervisor for many years.
Jim was an amazing athlete in his younger days but enjoyed baseball more than any other sport. When he fractured his arm as a young teenager, he hid it from his coach and family, playing through the pain, just so he could finish the season! Jim continued playing baseball into his adult years but found his true passion when he decided to start coaching. He devoted many years to the youth in the community as the Braves' head coach, taking his team to state in 1976. Although Jim enjoyed every season, his favorite was the year he was able to coach his grandson, Chad.
Jim was also an avid outdoorsman. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his family and friends at his hunting cabin in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, which he appropriately named Camp Six Pack as a tribute to his six children.
Above all else, Jim loved and cherished his wife and family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Gelorma Gandee; his children, Paul Gandee (Denise), Cynthia Gentile (Harry), Joseph Gandee, Kimberly Gandee (Jack), Shelly Wienhold (Chad), Mary Groudle (Michael); his grandchildren, Amy Curry (Adrian), Nicholas Gandee, Amanda Bosley (Donny), Joey Gandee, Tyler Peters, Chad Wienhold (Kaitlyn), Nicholas Kedacic (Chelsey), Ashley Groudle (Neil), Brad Wienhold (Skylar), Kevin Stewart (Natalie), Jesse Gandee, Justin Gandee (Alyssa), Travis Gandee, Joshua Groudle (Jadin), Caleb Groudle, and 7 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
