Greg J. Shannon, age 62 of Painesville, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025 at his home. He was born January 26, 1963 in Los Angeles CA, the son of Marlene Marie (Aupperle) and John Frances Shannon Jr.

Greg graduated in 1981 from Mentor Christian School. He went on to Bob Jones University and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism.
He furthered his education at Ohio Fire Academy and Auburn Career Center along with many other Fire and EMS Certifications. Greg took great pride and was devoted to his career as a firefighter for the Madison Fire District where he served for 20 years before retiring in 2005. Additionally, Greg was a proud member of the IAFF and was instrumental in coordinating the first "Toys For Tots" campaign for Madison Fire District. Concurrently with his Madison Fire District employment, Greg was part owner of Shannon Brothers Construction and built homes in the local Madison community.

In his free time, Greg enjoyed going on cruises, in fact he loved going on cruises so much that he coordinated large groups of firefighter cruises where many long lasting friendships were nurtured. .
He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them at gatherings and was always the favorite uncle with his "white elephant Christmas" gift exchange. He was in charge of and happy to be the keeper of his family's genealogy and kept extensive records that will continue to provide value for generations.

Greg is survived by his mother, Marlene Marie Shannon; brother's, Scott (Dawn) Shannon, Patrick (Jennifer) Shannon; sister's, Kami (Joey) Marko, Kasey (Rex) Kilian;
nieces and nephews, Brandi (Jesse) Selby, Ryan Shannon, Ashley (Nathan) Clink, Kyle (Brooke) Shannon, Amber Traxler, Christian Marko, Kayley, Caden, and Chloe Killian; great nieces and nephews, Cody, Hannah, Dalton, Maya, Brody, Nina, Natalie, Callie, Owen, Aubrey, Brody, Teagan, Ellie and Thea; uncle's, Robert Shannon, Neil Aupperle; aunt, Delores Templeman and many beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Shannon Jr.; grandparents, John and Catherine Shannon and Roy and Alta Aupperle.

Friends will be received from 5-8 pm. on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio 44057. Funeral service will be held at 11 am. on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery.
