Desmond Bernard Mathis, 53, of Painesville, Ohio passed away at his home of natural causes on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
He was born September 12, 1971, in Mentor, Ohio to Kathleen Collins and Vernon Mathis and served as a Staff Sargeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1990-1996.
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he received his EMT certification from Auburn Career Center and worked at TriPoint Medical Center as a transporter and also worked for the Salvation Army where he was recognized for his hard work. In his free time, he enjoyed working out, Martial Arts, and roller skating. Our father was a very loving man and always put everyone above himself. He took in homeless people and his goal was to get them back on track. I, Chloe Kropko, could never thank my dad enough for the best 21 years of my life!
Desmond is survived by his companion, Elizabeth Cronk; children, Chloe, Kodie, and Kayden; grandchildren, Asher Kropko, and Maverick Kropko; sister, Julie Welch; nieces and nephew, Aimee Anderson, Alex Welch, and Jeff Dybzinski..
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen Collins and Vernon Mathis; sister, Theresa Grezmak; brother, Vernon Mathis.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Contributions can be made at https://gofund.me/7f33dbf1 or sent to the family c/o Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services, 1500 Harpersfield Road, Geneva, Ohio 44041.
