James Roy Garlin, Jr. was born on November 19, 1944 in Rome, Georgia, the son of the late James Roy Garlin, Sr. and Esther Lee Bronson Garlin.
On November 8, 1999, he was united in marriage to Mae Walker, who survives.
Mr. Garlin was a handyman and liked to work on vehicles. He was an animal lover who especially loved cats and dogs. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, working puzzle books, traveling, and mowing the grass. James was also artistic and liked to spend time painting and drawing. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his former job working on the towboat for 19 years. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and play jokes on people. James liked to relax and sit on his front porch and drink his coffee. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Garlin was a member of First Baptist Church in Counce, Tennessee.
James Roy Garlin, Jr. departed this life on Friday, March 28, 2025 in Adamsville, Tennessee, at the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 9 days.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mae Garlin of Michie, Tennessee; son, James D. Garlin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; daughters, Lisa D. Avila of Savannah, Tennessee, Jeanne R. Garlin of Immokalee, Florida, and Betty L. Peeples of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Linda E. Reed of Rome, Georgia, Debbie Godwin of Savannah, Tennessee, Sandra White of Savannah, Tennessee, and Rita Hurley of Gaylesville, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammie Garlin; grandchildren, Danny Avila, Quentin Peeples, and an Angel baby boy; 2 great grandchildren; and his first wife, Johnny Mae Garlin.
