James "Jim" Garner

Mr. James Clifford (Jim) Garner, age 84, of the Carolina Community passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Mr. Garner was a long time coach and educator, serving at schools in Mississippi and Alabama and on the Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control. In 2014, he was inducted into the AHSAA Hall of Fame. He retired after a 24 year tenure as principal of Pleasant Home School. He was a member of Carolina Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and music director for over forty years.
Mr. Jim, also known as Daddy Jim or DJ, is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sherry Jacobs Garner; his children, Brad Garner, Joy (Hubble) Sowards, Micah (Kelley) Garner, and Sunny Garner; his grandchildren, Peyton (Taylor) Garner, Emory (Kelly) Kruger, Conner Sowards, Brady Sowards, Allie (James Austin) Hawkins, Amy Garner, Avery Garner, Katy (Collin) Moses, Aubry Chandler, Lydia Chandler; and his great grandchildren, Rollan Garner and Jay Hawkins. He is also survived by his brothers, Johnny (Sherry) Garner and Paul (Gail) Garner.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Elmore and Lois Grantham Garner.
Pallbearers serving the family will be Peyton Garner, Conner Sowards, Brady Sowards, James Austin Hawkins, Collin Moses and Ty Clark.
Funeral services for Mr. Garner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Carolina Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Armstrong and Rev. Garrett Davis officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, December 4, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery.
