Obituary for James L. Glancey
James L. Glancey, of Rock Hall, MD passed away on October 26, 2025, at the age of 62.
Jim is survived by his wife, Anna Armstong; his son, Benjamin "Quinn" Stoops; sister, Kathleen Glancey; his brother-in-law, Jean-Paul Louineau; nephews Pascal Louineau and Noah Louineau; and niece Emma Louineau. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Margaret (Grehan) Glancey and his Uncle John Durr, who he adored.
Jim was a lifetime hard worker. He dedicated his early life to helping his uncle on his dairy farm where he developed a passion for agriculture. He had a keen knack for math and mechanical aptitude and proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a minor in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware. He was driven to further his education and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from University of California, Davis. Jim started his professional career at the University of Delaware where he ultimately had dual appointments in both the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Engineering. During his 30-year career, he conducted research in the areas of agricultural engineering, fluid mechanics, materials, nonlinear dynamics, and solid mechanics. He also served as the agricultural engineer for the University's Cooperative Extension program, helping countless farmers across Delaware and the region. Jim taught 1000's of students where he was known for his pragmatic teaching style. He was not known for going easy on the students – which most likely students found to their benefit at the start of their careers. He dedicated most of his career to teaching students. He also published dozens of papers on mechanical engineering matters, holds several patents, and was instrumental to the Delaware agriculture industry. Jim was a licensed professional engineer and started his own successful business, Mechanical Design and Forensic Analysis, where he was engaged as a professional engineer to assess a vast array of product liability and patent infringement cases. During his career, Jim won numerous awards, including the Worrilow Award, though he was always one to shy from the limelight.
Jim was known for being charismatic, very humble, generous, kind, and incredibly intelligent. He would give anyone "the shirt off his back". Jim married later in life and said that he never met anyone that he wanted to marry until he met his wife, Anna. They were side by side, best friends, a great team, and loved each other deeply. Jim helped raise Quinn to be the very fine young man he is today, imparting mechanical aptitude, discipline, and kindness.
Jim was passionate about agriculture. He and his wife purchased a small farm in Middletown, DE and were able to pass on the legacy of hard work to their son, Quinn. They grew a variety of crops and tended chickens for meat and eggs through their business, The Barn Door at Meadowview Farms.
Jim also had a passion for antique vehicles and tractors, instilled at a young age by his father and continued through his friend, Tim Kuser. Jim's dad would take Jim and his sister to car shows when they were little. It was a legacy Jim continued with Quinn and a bond and connection he and Quinn shared. They participated in many car and antique vehicle shows together and were frequently found working in the shop on cars or antique tractors, fixing farm equipment, building equipment to support work or fun on the farm, or testing items for cases Jim would be working on. On any given school night, one could find Jim at the kitchen counter coaching Quinn in math and engineering or participating in and supporting some of Quinn's Kent County MD 4-H events. A testament to his love for his wife, Jim agreed to sell both farm and beach house in Lewes, DE to move to Rock Hall, MD, where the best of all worlds - land, water, and buildings were combined into one property. Within his last days, Jim said, "I love this place". Jim also studied classical guitar and had a passion for music.
Jim was very fond and incredibly proud of his nephews, Pascal and Noah, and his niece Emma. His love for them would bring tears to his eyes.
Jim was firm and incredibly fierce in deposition and his professional career, and soft and loving when needed. He was one of a kind, and he will be missed forever by all his loved ones and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1 with visitation at 2:30 pm and services at 3:30 pm at Faries Funeral Home in
