Obituary of James "Jim" Edward Greaves
James "Jim" Edward Greaves passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Livingston, Texas. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Edward Milton Greaves and Mary Orvetta (Wilkins) Greaves; wife of 64 years, Betty "Peters" Greaves; brother, David Roger Greaves; sister, Lois Carolyn (Greaves) Kaufman. Left to cherish Jim's memory are his sons, Ron Greaves and wife Teri, and Mark Greaves and wife Terry; daughter, Dawn Fink and husband Tom; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of many other family members and friends.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved people, and never met a stranger. Affectionately known as "Poppop" by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jim was a wonderful provider for his family. He was always there to help his children and grandchildren with whatever they might need. Jim was especially good at giving advice and wise counsel.
He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean war. Jim was a dedicated, hard-working employee for British Petroleum, before enjoying 39 years of retirement. He and Betty liked to travel together with family and friends and appreciated the many years they lived in the Country Place community in Pearland, Texas. Jim was an avid golfer, a master Bridge player, and a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. He remained active in his 90's, still riding his two wheeled bike frequently. Jim was also a member of the Methodist Church for most of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Paul Horton Methodist Church in Coldspring, Texas. (3271 Hwy 156 Coldspring Tx 77331) Jim's family will receive guests during a visitation time from 1:00 to 1:30 pm, with the service commencing at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Coldspring, Texas. (110 Mt Zion Rd, Coldspring, TX 77331)
