James Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by G.H. Herrmann Funeral Homes - Madison on Mar. 10, 2026.
James Lynden Green, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A longtime resident of Indianapolis, Jim lived a full and vibrant life marked by laughter, hard work, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Born August 29, 1949, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to the late Elmer Orville Green and Anna Marie (Smith) Green, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he built a career as a union electrician with IBEW, where his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic were well known. In addition to his trade, Jim's creativity and sense of fun led him to start Merry Madness Telegrams, a special-occasion event service that brought laughter and joy to countless celebrations.

Jim was truly a jack of all trades, who loved collecting treasures of all kinds and could fix just about anything. He was known for his quick wit, playful spirit, and the way his humor could light up a room. Whether telling a story, working with his hands, or simply spending time with family, Jim had a way of making moments memorable.

Above all else, Jim cherished his family. He will be deeply loved and forever missed by his wife of 40 years, Lisa Green; his children, Michelle Timmons (Brad Timmons), Ryan Green (Brandi Green),Whitney Green-Petty (Justin Petty), and Brittany Green (Martin Kuntz); and his beloved grandchildren, Ella Timmons, Cade Timmons, Jaxon Green, Tyler Green, Zoë Kuntz, Maeve Petty, and Margot Kuntz. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Jerge, Gloria Hill, Robert Green, Thomas Green, Richard Green, Donna Carr, Sandy Curtis, and Jeannie Drews, along with many extended family members and friends who will remember his warmth, humor, and generous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Green.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19th at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, with a memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

We knew the lovely Green family through
our daughters´ friendship. We have wonderful memories of cheerleading events, game night dinners, spring break trips, and watching our girls grow up.
Jim was a warrior - literally. He lived through some horrendous experiences. And yet, he lived life with such grace.
His kindness and joyful spirit will always be remembered.
To the Green family, we send our love and wish you peace.
