James F. "Jim" Grisé, age 92, passed away at St. Mary's Home of Erie on Monday July 18, 2022, with his family by his side. Jim was born in Erie, PA on June 18, 1930, to the late Francis V. and Mary Dornhoffer Grisé.
A lifelong citizen of Erie, Jim was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral Prep. His career in audio visual began working after school at Grisé Film Library which was founded by his father in 1947. As technology advanced, the business was renamed Grisé Audio Visual Center, Inc. Jim worked in the business for 72 years and held the title of CEO.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After basic training, he was assigned to the signal corps. at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Following graduation from Projector Repair School he became an instructor at the school and advanced to the non-commissioner officer in charge of the projector and camera repair school. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Erie to work at the family business. Jim filmed Cathedral Prep Football Games for decades. He also filmed football for Mercyhurst University and Edinboro University.
Jim married the former Allene Redner on June 29, 1957. The parents of two sons and a daughter, they recently celebrated their 65th year of marriage.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother Robert and his wife Betty and his sister Doris and her husband Daniel DiLuzio.
He is survived by his wife Allene and their children David Grisé, Ph.D. and his wife R. Deborah Overath, Ph.D. Of Corpus Christi, TX, Donald Grisé, Denise Grisé Hesch and her husband Daniel, grandchildren Bradley (Lauren) Hesch, Kelli Grisé (Michael Rogers) and their children, La Bella Rose and Michael Anthony Joseph Rogers all of Erie. He is also survived by numerous relatives in Meadville, PA and Canada.
Jim enjoyed his hobbies of stamp collecting and making jams and jellies. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling. Some of their favorites were trips to England, Germany, Italy, Hawaii, Alaska, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. For several years they would spend one month in Florida or Texas during the winter.
Jim was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and was fortunate to attend several home games.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a parishioner of Saint George Church where he was an usher for decades.
Memorials in his memory may be made to Saint George Church 5145 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509 or Goodell Gardens and Homestead 221 Waterford Street Route 6N, Edinboro, PA 16412.
The family would like to thank all at Saint Mary's who cared for Jim with great kindness for the last 10 ½ months.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street. Services will be held there Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Church. Entombment will follow at Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery and Mausoleum.
