Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of James Alton Griswell, 85, of Glascock County, Georgia, who went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2026. Born on December 19, 1940, to Lester and Georgia Walden Griswell, James served his country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He served his family with that same dedication, and they came to rely on his strength as the backbone of the family.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leroy and Gerald Griswell; his wife, Frances Griswell; and his infant son, James Allen Griswell.
He is survived by his son, Greg (Keri) Griswell; his daughters, Lisa (Jackie) Jones, Lora Neal, Christine (Jan) Mallie, and Stacie (Chris) Ledford; his brothers, Tommy (Cheryl) Griswell and Bobby (Tammy) Griswell; and his sisters, Gloria (Joe) Beckworth, Cherry Ybanez, and Donna Thigpen. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lexi, Harrison, Daniel, Susanna, Sophia, Isaac, Nortje, Michelle, Yvonne, Heleen, Casey, Emily, and Kyle; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Miley, Zayne, Maislynn, Malachi, Karter, and Tatum; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He possessed a strength that made others feel safe and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Rest easy, James, and let someone else carry the torch now. The eagle has soared.
