James Lund Guild (Jim) passed away May 19, 2025 in Ogden, Utah. Jim was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 6, 1950 to Charles F. and Ella (Lund) Guild. His father brought a brand new 1950 Chevy Coup to go to the hospital to pick up Jim and his mom and take them home to Piedmont, Wyoming. Jim has had that car and always dreamed of restoring it. Unfortunately, he never reached that goal, so the car will become the project of the next generation.
The family moved from Piedmont to Evanston, Wyoming at the time Jim and his sister started school. Jim attended Evanston schools and graduated from Evanston High School. After graduation, Jim faithfully served a 2 year mission in the Ontario-Quebec Mission. Upon his return, he attended Utah Technical College in SLC graduating with a Welding Degree. It was there that he met his future wife, Vickie Anne Laws and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 18, 1973.
Jim was not afraid of work. During his high school years, he worked cleaning the cemetery in Evanston. He also worked digging plots while attending UTC. Upon his graduation from UTC, he was hired by Weber Basin Job Corp as a Welding Instructor. He loved this job and work there for 36 years. He spent a few of those years teaching Maintenance. He and his students were instrumental in installing playgrounds around the area, helping to build bridges at Dinosaur Park and providing other community services, including making bear proof garbage cans for the forest service. After he retired, he worked for Topper Bakery as their delivery driver until a fire destroyed the business.
Jim was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints throughout his life. Besides serving a mission, he served as a Elders Quorum President, a member of the Stake Sunday School Presidency, a Primary teacher (which he loved), a Scout Master and was one of a minority of men church wide that could say he was released by a prophet. He was serving as a stake seventy in 1986 when Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley released all local quorums. He served 2 years in the Ogden Temple as an ordinance worker. The majority of Jim's church service was spent in Scouting. He loved his scouts and loved spending time with them. He earned several awards including the Silver Beaver Award.
Jim spent his younger years and up until he was no longer able, helping people.
He loved having a truck and used it to serve others. He had a garage full of "another man's treasures." In order words, if Jim didn't have it, you didn't need it, but if he had it, it was yours.
Jim is survived by Vickie, his wife of 51 years. His four children Tiffany of North Dakota, Joshua of Washington, Brittany of Texas, and Jacob of Idaho. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and a sister Mary Ella Kennedy of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ella Guild, his in-laws Elroy and Eava Laws, 2 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-law, a niece and 2 nephews.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 27, at Leavitt's Mortuary at 836 36th Street.
There will also be a viewing from 10:15-10:45 AM at the Sullivan Hollow chapel at 976 33rd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28th at the Sullivan Hollow chapel at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.
