James William Hammond

James William Hammond, 74, of Winchester, VA died Saturday, October 18, 2025 at his residence.
He was born June 26, 1951 in Kirby, WV, the son of Lancy William Hammond and Mary Florence Hammond. He was a member of New Life Christian Church, and Hoppers Auto Club. He retired from Winchester Public Schools as a bus driver.
James married Edith Marie Hammond August 14, 1985; Edith preceded him in death June 11, 2020.
He is survived by three stepchildren, Kenneth R. Lewis of Front Royal, VA, Brenda D. Lewis of Winchester, and Sherry L. Heishman of Winchester, and three siblings, Shirley Baldwin of Kirby, WV, Betty L. Hammond of Severn, MD, and Patsy A. Gapen of Charlestown, WV, five step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife Edith, he is preceded in death by a stepchild, Sandra L. Lewis and a sister Mary Golliday.
The family will receive friends on Monday October 27, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, from 12:00 pm- 1:00pm.
A funeral will follow at 1:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Kraig Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be Eddy Strosnider, Lonnie Phillips, Mike Combs, Rob Poland, Gary Sibert, and William Holmes.
