James P. Hannegan, age 78, passed away peacefully on November 18th, 2023. Born on September 24th, 1945, he was the son of the late James and Verla Hannegan. He was the cherished husband of Bernadine (Bernie) Yagatich for 54 years. Loving Dad to Tami (Andrew) Krugh and Shawn (Kimberley) Hannegan. Immensely proud "Pap Pap" to Julia and A.J. Krugh and Luca Hannegan, whom he loved very much. He is survived by his loving sister Jeanne (Richard) Downey. Jim also leaves behind many relatives and friends who will deeply miss him, especially his beloved pet bird, Fleury.
Jim was a U. S. Army Veteran, passionate about serving his country.
Being a lover of the great outdoors, Jim followed his son into scouting serving for 4 years as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 4, sponsored by St. Louise de Marillac Parish. For the next 13 years he served as Scoutmaster, guiding many young men along the Scouting Trail, with thirty-nine of those reaching the Eagle Summit, including his own son, Shawn. During those years, he had a profound impact on both the youth in the program, as well as the adult leaders and parents.
After retiring as Scoutmaster, he was a member of the Conestoga District Advancement Committee. His contributions to scouting were recognized by the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he was awarded the Silver Beaver.
When Tami and Shawn became involved with the Bethel Park Marching Band, Jim also served as the band's videographer and chaperoned many band trips and events. He enjoyed every minute of the time he spent with the students and their parents.
His love of nature led him to enjoy bird watching and all the tranquility that it brings. One of his requests was that each of you consider gifting yourself with a bird feeder, so that you too can enjoy the peace brought by the beauty of our feathered friends. Jim leaves behind many precious memories that will be cherished forever and live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Rest in peace, Jim. Your life was a gift to us all, and we are all better for having known you.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Washington Rd, McMurray, PA 15137. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, November 22 at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 10:30 AM with full military honors.

The impact this man had on my life is so hard to put into words. He taught hundreds of kids like me responsibility, problem solving, citizenship, independence and leadership...And he did it all with a smile on his face and a horribly off key version of "Oh What A Beautiful Morning!" Outside of my family there are very few people who helped shape me into the man I became the way he did. You will be truly missed.

Sending many thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Hannegan and their family!
