James Hansen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sosebee Funeral Home on Jan. 3, 2026.
James Edward Hansen went to be with our Lord on January 2, 2026. Born on December 30, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the family also lived in Fox Lake, IL for several years where he attended Gavin Elementary School. Jim proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the US Army. After discharge he worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the Accounting Department of the Chicago Fabrication Division, was promoted to the Burns Harbor Plant in Indiana, and then to the Home Office in Bethlehem, PA. He retired in 2002 after 35 years of service, eventually retiring to the Atlanta area in 2015.
Jim was a man of strong faith, instilled in him by his family and he continued the heritage to his own children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. He was a happy, outgoing person who made friends with everyone he met, even taking dog treats in his pocket when he went jogging to give to pets he met along the way. His laughter, kindness, and dedication will always be remembered by those who knew him. Jim was always ready to lend a helping hand and served in various volunteer jobs at each of the church he attended throughout the years.
Jim was an avid runner and bicycler. He participated in many marathons, triathlons and road races. While living in Indiana he ran alongside the torch bearer for the 1984 Olympics, running down Rt. 20 thru Chesterton, IN. His other passion was his blue trek road bike, which he rode in several century rides into the Pocono Mountains in the fall and other interesting road bike trips across Pennsylvania.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret (Rice) Hansen and brothers Richard, Robert and Teddy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn (Price) Hansen, and their four children: daughter Carin (Scott) Johnson, son David (Elizabeth) Hansen, daughter Amy (Nick) Arduino, son Michael (Lori) Hansen, eight beautiful grandchildren, sister Karen (Hansen) Luckett, plus many extended family members and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Pastor Kasey Kuyper officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday before the service from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Georgia National Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are David Hansen, Michael Hansen, Scott Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Nick Arduino and Nicholas Arduino. Honorary pallbearers are Gabriel Hansen and Samuel Hansen.
