James Harmon (aka) Hard Times was born July 17, 1952 in Tazewell County, Virginia to the late Clyde and Frances Underwood Harmon. At 10:08 pm on Thursday night, July 24, 2025, James left his Bearwallow home and entered his heavenly home with his loving wife and exceptional caregiver, Ruby, and family by his side along with his nurse, Tangie Scarberry. James was a truck driver and a lifelong resident of the Bearwallow area. He was a member of the Richlands Lodge #318 AF & AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Harmon Tegler; his son, Ellis Harmon; one brother, Bill Dooley Harmon; one sister, Tootsie Osborne; brothers-in-law, Bill Osborne and Jim Osborne; and sister-in-law, Tammy Harmon. He is survived by: His Wife of 55 Years, Ruby VanDyke Harmon Grandchildren: Alexander Tegeler and his wife, Sara; Andrew Harmon Tegeler and their father, James Tegeler Oliva Harmon, Jake Harmon and their mother, Penny Harmon One Great Grandson: James Henry Tegeler Sisters: Ruby (Minnis) Adams of Ohio Bobbie Keen of Salisbury, North Carolina Brother: Dexter Harmon of Gate City, Virginia He is also survived by mother of the heart, Vivian Cole George of Pea Patch, Virginia and brother at heart, Daniel Elswick of North Carolina. Special Brother In Law: Ralph Vandyke who was always there with a helping hand Several Nieces and Nephews and a host of family and friends also survive. Special thanks to Ultra Hospice, Tangie Scarberry, Chad Hurley, Carrie Matney, Denisha Mullns, and Nurse Practitioner, Amy Roberts. A very special thank you to Anna Mitchell, a special friend, for all of her help. Funeral services for James Harmon will be conducted Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 7pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Lonnie Perkins, Rev. Tim Day, and Rev. Kenneth Byrd officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted Monday, July 28, 2025 at 11:00am at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to be at the funeral home by 10:30am on Monday morning. Pallbearers will be: Jake Harmon, Brett Harmon, Chris Harmon, Casen Harmon, Logan Vandyke, Ralph Vandyke, and Raymond Vandyke. Flowergirls: Layla Vandyke, Rhylynn Adams, Little Ruby Adams, Adi Reynolds, Aubrey Reynolds, and Amelia Reynolds. Honorary Pallbeaerers will be: Roger Vandyke, Dusty Vandyke, Bo Vandyke, Brandon Vandyke, Junior McGlothlin, Daniel Elswick and all of his Lonesome Pine Trail Rider Friends. Members of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF&AM will conduct masonic rites at 7pm Sunday evening. Friends may visit with the family from 5pm until 7pm on Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
