James "Fred" Harrington, born on April 12, 1955, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on November 10, 2025, at the age of 70. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Fred lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Fred was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Wyatt and Isabel Harrington. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Terri Harrington, with whom he shared a lifelong bond as childhood sweethearts living just down the street from one another. Their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Together, Fred and Terri were blessed with three children: Drew Harrington (Nikki), Devin Harrington, and Allie Barnes (Jordan). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Layla Harrington, Lily Harrington, Kennedy Barnes, Raelynn Harrington, Braydyn Harrington, Allyssa Hooks, and T.J. Caldwell.
He is also survived by his brother, Eddie Harrington; his mother and father-in-law, Lois and Tom Easter, Sr.; his sister-in-law, Robin Hawthorne (Rodney); his brothers-in-laws, Jeff Easter and Tom Easter Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fred dedicated many years to Starr's Mill High School, where he served as a Security Attendant for the past seven years. However, his involvement with the school began in 1997, as he and Terri actively participated in various activities when their children and two of their grandchildren, attended the school. Known affectionately as "Papa Fred" by the students, Fred always had a treat in his pocket for both kids and dogs, embodying a spirit of warmth and kindness that touched everyone he met.
A man of humor and joy, Fred was always smiling, spreading positivity wherever he went. He adored his role as a husband, father and grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his family. He loved with all his heart, and his presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Beyond his devotion to his family, Fred found joy in gardening, a pastime that he got from his dad, allowing him to nurture beauty and life in the world around him. His love for life and everyone in it was evident in everything he did.
Services celebrating the life of James Fred Harrington will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home, with Tom Easter, Jr. officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather and pay their respects on the same day, beginning at 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
Fred's legacy of love, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he left behind. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering spirit and the joy he brought into the lives of so many.
