James Hayes Obituary

James "Jim" Louis Hayes peacefully passed away at exactly 3am on September 22nd. He always liked to be precise on things even in his death. Jim was born in Los Angeles, Ca on February 24, 1943.

He always told the story about how his mother chose him to adopt, she leaned over the crib with her floppy hat and he grabbed it, the rest was history for that baby boy. Jim lived in Salinas, Ca his whole life frequently visiting the Auburn/Roseville area and the Santa Cruz Mountains as a child. He graduated from Palma high school in 1960, with many stories to tell especially about a senior prank that went down in history. If you know you know. Jim was fun loving, generous and always tried to do the right thing.

He was an entrepreneur, beginning Polar Service Co. and running it for over 50 years. Finally retiring in 2017. Throughout his years he developed so many relationships with almost everyone he met. Jim was a committee member of the Salinas Rodeo Association for over 30 years, running the bar in the Pavilion until his son (Michael Hayes) and close friend (Marc Bonus) took over after he was physically unable to do it any longer. He was very proud that they were his replacements. Jim had one son and a bonus daughter.

He would have been married to Martha for 30 years in December of this year. They took many memorable adventures together including spending much of their time in Cabo San Lucas where they would watch the sun rise each morning. Jim has been battling rheumatoid arthritis along with other health issues for years. That didn't stop him from keeping up with things around the house. He never wanted to procrastinate, always wanting to take care of things immediately.

He is survived by his loving wife Martha, son Michael, his wife Amanda and their daughter Anabelle, and his daughter Alexis Turano and her husband Ryan Lewis.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Louis Hayes. He will be remembered, always.
