James Heacker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Slay Memorial Funeral Center - Aubrey on Jan. 12, 2026.
James P. Heacker, "Bud," was welcomed into our Savior's open arms on January 10, 2026. Bud was born in Denison, TX on October 8, 1943.

James attended schools in Pilot Point, TX and Haltom City, TX. He played football for East Texas State University and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He taught school for several years beore going to work with Otis Engineers in Dallas, TX.

He is preceded by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Luz from Pilot Point, TX.; brother Jerry Davis and wife, Vicki of Collinsville, TX.; daughters, Betsy and husband Wes Conner of Sumter, SC, Amy and husband Rick Morse of Sumter, SC; son, Ben and wife Shelly of Eugene, OR; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand, and great grandchildren.

He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments and spoke of them often. He made many friends along the way and often spoke of his sky diving and deep-sea diving experiences. His ultimate love was going fishing on his vessel "La Luz". He was very mechanical and could troubleshoot just about anything. He enjoyed westerns, country music, Dallas Cowboys, and attending church on Sundays where his son-in-law, Wes, preached at St. Mark's in SC, where he could see family and friends. He established wonderful relationships with neighbors over the years. Above all he spoke often of how he was anticipating to one day meet his maker.

A celebration of life to honor James' memory and legacy will take place in the fall at the Collinsville Methodist Church. More information will be forthcoming. At this time, please respect our privacy during this unexpected loss of our family member. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com

Arrangements are under the direction of Devon Calverley and Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
