James V. Hering

James V. Hering, known as "Jim" or "Senior" to friends and family, of Shelby Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by family. Throughout his life, Jim exemplified unwavering integrity, leadership, and dedication to family, community, and faith.

When reflecting on his life, Jim's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Kathy, and their five children: Deborah (George) Mehok, James (Elizabeth) Hering, Diane (James) Zubkus, Michael (Susan) Hering, and John (Annette) Hering. Jim was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Claire and Lilly Mehok; Olivia and Owen Hering; Kay and Jack Zubkus; Ryan, Brendan, and Lauren Hering; James and Avery Hering; and Thomas and Mary Dolan. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Margaret Loftus, as well as many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Eleanor; his sisters, Lenore (Emmett) Masterson and Bonnie (Kenneth) Lubera; and his daughter-in-law, Emme Winkler.

Jim graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1958. He continued his studies at John Carroll University, earning his degree in accounting in 1964 and laying the foundation for a distinguished professional career.

Jim began his four-decade career at Copper & Brass Sales, Inc., a leading processor and distributor of non-ferrous metals, joining the company in 1960 as an accountant. Through dedication and integrity, he rose to become Vice President of Materials. Following the sale of the company to Thyssenkrupp Materials North America in 1997, Jim was appointed President of TKX Logistics Inc., where he provided steady leadership until his retirement in 1999. His career was defined by hard work, sound judgment, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.

A dedicated public servant, Jim gave his time to Shelby Township's Police and Fire Civil Service Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Board of Review. His colleagues recall his quiet courage, formidable spirit, and steady integrity.

Jim was a man of deep faith, serving his church community at St. Blase Parish from 1968 to 1989 as a member of the Men's Club, Ushers Club, Parish Council, and Finance Committee. He was also a member of St. John Vianney Parish from 1989 until his passing.

Jim will be remembered for his generous spirit, commanding presence, and his belief in the importance of family and service. He will be dearly missed by those privileged to know him and carry forward his legacy.

Memorial Visitation Sunday, November 30th, from 3 – 8 pm at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons (Shelby), 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 1st, at 10 am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Township, MI 48315 (Btw. 24 & 25 Mile).
