James Taylor “Jim” Herring, 80, of West Terre Haute passed away February 5, 2026, in The Gibson Center for Hospice Care. He was born on October 30, 1945, in Terre Haute, Indiana to William Landes Herring and Rosemary Williford Herring. Jim graduated from West Vigo High School. He was a member of the Four-Square Gospel Church. His first job was at the Zephyr station, then he went on to be the manager at Burger Chef, and then as a stocker at Great Scott. Jim loved sports, baseball, basketball, and football especially. He also enjoyed watching westerns and sitting outside drinking coffee.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geneva Elaine Herring (m. 8/2/1972), and a grandson, Jordan.
Jim is survived by his son, Brent Herring (Brandy), daughter, Shannon, brother, William Leon Herring (Jane), grandchildren, Taylor, Brittany, Blaez, A’Landes, Landen, Alise, Elaineah, and great grandchildren, Tuff, Jordan, Kirsch, Jase, and Tate.
Services for Jim will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd Street, West Terre Haute, Indiana, 47885 at 7 pm. Visitation will be from 4 pm until service time in the funeral home on Tuesday. Reverend Thomas Smith will officiate.
