James Michael Hobbs, 63, of Hampton, Virginia, died October 13, following a long battle with advanced prostate cancer.
He was born January 17, 1962, the son of the late James J. and Marjorie B. Hobbs of Suffolk, VA. He grew up in Hobbsville, NC, and was a 1980 graduate of Forest Glen High School in Suffolk and the College of William and Mary in 1984, where he studied government and played in the pep band.
He had worked as a manager for AMC Theaters and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and was a truck driver in his later years for JB Hunt.
He was an avid history enthusiast who appreciated places of historical significance, especially Civil War battlefields. He enjoyed a good nap on the beach at the Outer Banks and believed few things in life were better than a "Hot Holly, no pickles" from Paul's Deli for lunch with friends.
He is survived by his sister, Karen Hobbs Leigh and her husband, Thomas, of Bridgewater, VA; nephew Benjamin Leigh and wife Madelyn of Richmond; niece, Hannah Leigh-Brown and husband Nicholas Brown of Warner, NH, and their two children.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Williamsburg Foundation or the American Battlefield Trust.
