James Rumsey Hood

James Rumsey Hood of Macomb, formerly of Jackson, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 75. He was at peace with the Lord, strengthened by his faith and comforted by the promise of eternal life.
Jim was born on May 4, 1950, to Herbert and Arlene (Rumsey) Hood. On December 17, 1971, he married Sherrill "Sherry" Tilmann, and together they built a loving family over 53 years of marriage. Jim was a man with a generous spirit, a servant's heart, and a quiet devotion to the people he loved.
Jim especially cherished time with his daughters and grandchildren. He loved the beach, taking Erin on countless road trips over the years and making sure every grandchild had their special summer beach days with Papa. At home, his joy was found in the kitchen-cooking daily breakfasts for Avery and Aiden, teaching Karina to cook, and sharing the meals he lovingly prepared with his family. Cooking was one of the ways he expressed his love, and it remains one of the fondest memories his family holds.
Jim was also an avid gardener. He took pride in tending his plants, and he passed this love of gardening on to his daughters, who continue to carry that part of him with them.
Animals held a special place in Jim's heart. He was known to rescue strays from the roadside, and his beloved dogs-Riesling, Sake, and Piper-brought him daily companionship and happiness.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry; his daughters Karina (Brad) Kimpell and Erin (Ron) Baller; and his treasured grandchildren Benjamin Kimpell, Faith (Mason) Johnson, Avery Baller, and Aiden Baller. He is also survived by his brothers, Herbert Jr. and Gary, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until noon, followed by a brief funeral service at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb. Lunch will be held immediately following.
Jim's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the meals he shared, the gardens he tended, the pets he rescued, and the faith that sustained him throughout his life.
