James (Jim) Dale Horton

June 1, 1950 to September 9, 2025

Jim, beloved husband of Beth for 19 years, passed away peacefully on September 9 in Panama City Beach , FL at the age of 75. Born on June 1, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of Morris James Horton and Mollie Bane NeSmith.

As an outstanding athlete at Tarrant High School, in Tarrant, AL, Jim earned a football scholarship to the University of Alabama. He had a successful career as a Sales Manager for Reid Rowell/Solvay Pharmaceuticals. He was known for his quick wit, love of family, and passion for Alabama Football. Roll Tide!

Jim is survived by his twin sister Sandra Echols and sister Marlene Fortenberry, his oldest son Matt Horton, and youngest son Chad Horton, and wife Danielle Horton. He is known as "Grandy" by his grandchildren Zeke, Eli, and Evie.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, family, friends, and all who knew him and loved him. A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 11th at Chad and Danielle Horton's home in Freeport FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association at www.ALZ.org.
