James Edward Hulett, age 83, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his residence in Jacksonville, Georgia, on June 29, 2025, after an extended illness. Born on December 23, 1941, in Columbus, Georgia, Ed's life was marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a legacy of kindness that touched all who knew him.
Ed was the son of the late David Everett Hulett and Gladys Covington Hulett Smith. After completing his education, he proudly served his country in the Air Force, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his years. Upon returning to civilian life, he embarked on a career as a machine operator for Delphi Battery in Fitzgerald, where he was known for his reliability and precision. He retired after many years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and friendship that continued long after his departure.
Beyond his family, Ed had a passion for horse riding and motorcycle riding, hobbies that allowed him to connect with nature and the simple joys of life. His neighbors knew him as the man who was always there to help, whether it was fixing a fence or offering a kind word. His big heart and hardworking nature made him a pillar in his community, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a member of Blockhouse Baptist Church.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Von Hulett of Jacksonville; daughters, Lisa Bryan (Tommy) of Pridgen and Missy Winningham (Steven) of Byron; grandchildren, Courtney Stevens (Hugh) of Tifton, Chase Bryan (Sarah) of Broxton, and Matthew Winningham of Byron; great-grandchildren, Liam Stevens of Tifton and Olivia Jane Bryan of Broxton; and sister, Ann Smith (Virgil) of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Everett Hulett and Gladys Covington Hulett Smith; sisters, Geralda Dover and Waynie Maloy and brother, William Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at Blockhouse Baptist Church on Thursday, July 3 at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Bill Jones will officiate, assisted by Rev. Joey Copeland. Interment will take place at Blockhouse Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. – 2: OO P.M.
As we bid farewell to James Edward Hulett, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life full of purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to others.
