James Larry Huntley

Mr. James Larry Huntley, age 87, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025.The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral ceremony will follow at 12 p.m. in the chapel with Chris Moody officiating. A private committal service will take place afterwards at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C. Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Larry was one of three sons born to the late James Howard Huntley and Gertrude Hamilton Huntley. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1955 and earned a bachelors degree in ceramic engineering at North Carolina State University in 1959. Larry served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and attained the rank of Captain while in the army reserve. He and his loving wife Patsy were married for 61 years.
They met after he began his career at Great Lakes Carbon in Morganton, N.C. and later moved to Raleigh, N.C. Larrys career then led them to new places. He worked for Corning Glass in Raleigh. N.C., Carborundum Corporation in Hickman, Kentucky, Boren Brick in Gaffney, S.C., he was plant manager for Boren Brick in Roseboro, N.C., and finally retired from Boral Brick in Van Wyck, S.C.
Larry was passionate about participating in his community. Over the years, he belonged to a host of civic organizations, among them Jaycees in Morganton, N.C. and the Lions Club in Fort Mill. He also served the Fort Mill Town Council for 14 years. Faith was also an important part of Larrys life. He was a very active member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, S.C. for many years where he served on several committees. A few months before he became ill, he joined Tirzah A.R.P. on Mt. Gallant Rd in York, S.C.
Larry is survived by his wife, Patsy Curtis Huntley; their son and daughter-in-law, James "Jimmy" Howard Huntley II and wife, Susan, of Fort Mill; his two grandsons, Thomas James Huntley (Bayley) of Rock Hill, S.C. and Quinton Riese Huntley of Raleigh, N.C.; and his brothers, Charles "Charlie" Howard Huntley of Texas and Williams Sidney "Sid" Huntley (Michelle) of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Larry and his wife, Patsy, were preceded in death by their daughter, Melissa Ann Huntley, who died tragically in 2001.Memorial may be made to: Heart Secured Ministry, P.O.
