James Edward Huver, age 77, of Ionia, passed away on July 9, 2025. He was born April 2, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Leo Thomas and Helen Marie (Freeman) Huver. Jim was drafted into the Army in February 1968, where he served his country honorably in Vietnam. He married Sue Larson on June 22, 1968, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Saranac, Michigan. Jim farmed most of his life, partnering with his father-in-law, Francis, on their family dairy farm. He was active in the Michigan Farm Bureau Young Farmer Program. Jim's life was dedicated to serving his community. He was a charter volunteer with the Berlin Orange Fire Department. He was a member and previous Post Commander of the Portland VFW Post 4090 before helping to establish the Ionia VFW David A Huhn Post 12082. He also served as Post Commander, in addition to numerous other duties. Jim dedicated himself to honoring veterans, helping them to understand and secure benefits. Jim hand crafted hundreds of beautiful flag boxes for those who had served and sacrificed. His love for woodworking was more than a hobby-it was a way he gave back and expressed his care for others. Whether in his shop or simply sharing time with family and friends, Jim had a twinkle in his eye that made others feel genuinely loved and valued. His warmth, quick wit, and gift for storytelling left a lasting impression on all who had the joy of knowing him. Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Sue Huver of Ionia. Sons, Andy Huver of Ionia and Tony (Jen) Huver of Hudsonville. Grandchildren, Henry James and Madelyn. Sister, Frances (John) Brown of West Lakes and Brothers Kenneth (Patricia) Huver of Lake Odessa, Jerry (Phyllis) Huver of Lowell, and. Sister-in-law Judy (Gary) Volker of White Lake. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris and Francis Larson. Jim's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Alysia (Isaac) Blough, the Lake Odessa and Ionia VFW, Just Like Home, Luminate Home Care, and Cornerstone Caring. Your kindness, unwavering support, and tender care brought comfort and peace during a difficult time. We will forever be grateful for your love and dedication to Jim and our family. A joint Visitation for Jim and Sue on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia, with the Rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass honoring the lives of James E.
