James Lloyd Ives, 72, of Sanford, Michigan.
Jim Ives, a devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and master electrician, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 19, 2025.
Born in Gladwin, Michigan, Jim grew into a man defined by his strength, his steady presence, and his firm but loving guidance. As a father and grandfather, he instilled values of hard work, honesty, and respect. His family will forever carry the lessons he taught in the deep love he shared.
A true craftsman, Jim worked as a master electrician for over 40 years, spending the last 20 years at the City of Midland, and finally retiring in 2015.
Jim was admired for his skill, dedication, and precision. He was often the first to lend a hand-whether helping a neighbor in need, volunteering his expertise to help rebuild Sanford after the flood, or showing up for family and friends whenever the call came. His generosity and willingness to serve others left a mark far beyond his profession.
Jim's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed woodworking, problem solving, spending time at the property, shooting guns, and visiting at his favorite store, Sanford Hardware, where he found more than what was on the shelves-he found friendship, laughter and lasting bonds.
Though Jim's love could be firm, his heart was always kind. Those who knew him will remember his ingenuity, his wisdom, and his unshakable reliability. He was the kind of man people could depend on, both in work and in life.
Jim is survived by his children, Jeff (Michelle) Ives, Ryan (Casey) Ives, five Grandchildren: Samantha, Kendra, Darrion, Aaron, and Tristen. Four Great Grandchildren: Westen, Bensen, Sophina, & Oliver. Brothers: David (Sue) Ives and Ronald (Carla) Ives. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by Ann Ives, his father, Earl Ives and mother, Wilma Ives.
His light will live on in the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the countless he touched with his work and generosity.
A service to honor his life will be held on August 30, 2025, at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W Wackerly St, Midland, MI.
Friends and family may visit from 4-6pm with service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Toni & Trish House, a cause close to his family's heart.
