James Arthur Jaquins

James Arthur Jaquins of Colonial Heights passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Born and raised in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Lillian and Albert Jaquins, Sr., and was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Jaquins, Jr.; and sister, Laurie Fellows.

A proud United States Army veteran, James served two tours in Vietnam. After his military service, he continued to serve his community as a member of the Petersburg Police Department. Over a distinguished 20-year career, he made significant contributions in the Traffic Division, Street Crime Unit, and Property Division Unit. His commitment to protecting others was evident in his lifesaving actions, credited with saving two lives during his tenure. James was named Patrolman of the Month on numerous occasions, a testament to his exceptional dedication and professionalism. He also earned the Expert Marksmanship award during his tenure with the police department.

James was a man of many passions. An avid fisherman, he found solace in the ocean, especially during his cherished trips to Nags Head, his favorite vacation destination. A gun enthusiast and history buff, James spent countless hours immersed in books and films about military and U.S. history. His love for cinema led to a memorable experience as an extra in John Wayne’s iconic film, The Green Berets.

James Arthur Jaquins will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was the embodiment of patriotism, a man who deeply loved his country and took immense pride in serving it. His devotion to the United States was evident in every aspect of his life, from his military service to his passion for studying and celebrating the nation’s history.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol James Jaquins; sister, Nancy Mattie and husband, Don, Sr.; brother, Jerry Jaquins and wife, Linda; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
