James "Jimmy" Alfred Jay, age 92, passed away on January 13, 2026. He was born on October 28,1933, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and later resided in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Lela Garmon Jay and Sylvan A. Jay, both of Oklahoma City; his beloved wife, Joy Earlene Brown Jay of Oklahoma City; his sister, Shirley Howard of Mead, Oklahoma; and his brothers, Teddy Jay and Jerry Jay, both of Oklahoma City.
He attended Central High School in Oklahoma City, graduating in 1952. In 1954, Jimmy moved to California, where he pursued his passion for music. He was a skilled lead guitarist and session musician, performing primarily in the Los Angeles area and throughout the West Coast. In 1964, Jimmy was honored as Best Lead Guitarist at the Country Music Awards of Southern California, held at The Red Barrel Club in Artesia, California. Jimmy married the love of his life, Joy Earlene Brown, on February 5, 1963, in Clark County, Nevada.
He is survived by his children, Theresa Jay, Roger Jay, Teddy Mark Jay, and Brian James Jay; his grandchildren, Jeremy Jay, Terra Schultz, Lauren Taylor Turner, Hattie Rian Jay, and Macie Grace Jay; his sister, Evelyn Cochran; along with many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Lindley May Chapel, 507 East Main Street, Moore, Oklahoma 73160. Services will be officiated by Pastor Greg Adams. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of James, please visit our floral store.
