A visitation will be held at Saint Katherine Drexel Life Center on Saturday, July 19, 2025, beginning at 8:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 A.M. Tributes will immediately follow.
Interment will be private.
He was a resident of New Iberia, LA who transitioned at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 7, 2025, at his residence.
James Jean-Batiste, Sr., was born in New Iberia, Louisiana, on February 6, 1951. He was the beloved son of the late Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Sr. and Maude Broussard Jean-Batiste. At an early age, he accepted Christ and became a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church. He was a 1968 graduate of Jonas Henderson High School.
James, known to many as "BK or Black Knight", spent most of his life as a cross-country truck driver, but if you asked him his occupation, he'd tell you he was a "Paid Tourist". He will be dearly missed.
James leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Darrell Porter (Pamela) of Jeanerette, LA; James Jean-Batiste, Jr. (Rachelle) of Lafayette, LA; three daughters, Shawntel Corsey of Huntsville, AL; Ashley Lewis (Tremaine) of New Iberia, LA; Krystal Jean-Batiste of Palmetto, LA; one bonus son, Christopher Rocio of Palmetto, LA; one brother, Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Jr. (Peggy) of New Iberia, LA; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Sr., and Maude Broussard Jean-Batiste; one sister, Rita Faye Lavern; one granddaughter, Mya Porter; one niece, Vonda Lavern; two nephews, John Callaham and Martin Lavern.
Serving as active Pallbearers will be Nickalas Cheney, Randall Lavern, John "Lil Daddy" Doucet, Travon Cheney, Irvin Lavern, Mack Batiste and Gean Sawyer. Honorary Pallbearers are Darrell Porter, Lawrence Jean-Batiste, Jr., Anthony Lavern, James Jean-Batiste, Jr., Derrick DeRouen, Kenneth Kelly, and Kenneth "Road Dog" Francois.
