James Edward “Jim” Leggett, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Halifax County was the son of the late Willie and Hattie Abernathy Leggett and was married to the late Delores Aultman Leggett.
Jim retired from the North Carolina DOT in Bridge Construction. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed Gospel Music and spending time with his family and his dog, Lady.
Jim is survived by his sons, James A. Leggett, Sr. of the home and Jeff B. Nash and wife, Jody of Graham; grandchildren, Misty (Travis) Bumgarner, Starr (Steven) McArdle, James A. Leggett, Jr., James Daniel Leggett, Tamara Lee and Joshua Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; daughter, Pamela Ann Lee, grandson, Devin Edward Leggett; brother, Donald Leggett and sisters, Hilda Bishop and Marie Harrup.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Alamance Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45PM prior to the graveside at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
