James “Jimmy” D. Arndt Jr., 70, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025 in the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born December 2, 1955 in Wausau, son of the late James Sr. and Emily (Ortlieb) Arndt.
Jimmy worked as a crane operator for Wausau Steel in Wausau for many years. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch baseball, softball and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He also enjoyed hockey and played for the Wausau Cyclones in 1975. Jimmy was an outdoorsy kind of guy and loved to go fishing and hunting and enjoyed camping at Sherwood Forest in Wisconsin. Among his favorite pastimes, he liked to collect coins with his granddaughter, Kayia. Jimmy would never forget a birthday and would always make it a point to call everyone and wish them well on their special day.
Survivors include, two children, Jenny Arndt and J.D. Arndt III (special friend, Angie Landess); one granddaughter, Kayia Arndt; four siblings, Ken (Jan) Arndt, Kurt (Dawn) Arndt, Jill Scutkowski and Jack Arndt (special friend, Tracy Nelson); his ex-wife, Lucy Stark; nieces and nephews, Ken (Dawn) Arndt, Kelly (Kevin) Christensen, Kasey (Geoff) Pogorelski, Matt Arndt, Nathan Arndt, Kyle Bachman, Jessica (Nick) Schires, Jordyn (Shawn) Flannery, John (fiancé Skyla VanRixel) Scutkowski, Ryan (Rachel) Arndt and Ross (Teona) Arndt; and many great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jeff Scutkowski.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Deacon Peter Burek will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
